Manitoba’s spring flood forecast for 2016 looks to be no cause for alarm so far, but that wasn’t the case back in 1950 when disaster struck and floodwaters on the Red River crested 9 metres above normal. This British Pathé newsreel entitled, “Winnipeg Wins Flood Battle,” offers a vintage view of stranded livestock, dynamiting a home in the river and the victorious awarding of – if you can believe it – Miss Seepage.
